Sweetheart,
The Army has finally become it’s dreariest. Eleven days with you makes everything else pretty bad. I love you so.
The train to Kansas City was a streamliner and pretty nice. It arrived on time so I hd an hour layover. Went into the lunch room and had 117 beans, 1/57 cubic inch of pork and two slices of brown bread. Tasted swell! The train to Salina was quaint. Pot bellied stove in one end and gas light. I slept most of the was thanks to the dull lighting. Got here at 11:30 and hopped a bus to the field. After I signed in I went back to my barracks. What a mess. The beds were all torn down and all the mattresses gone. No lights either. I quietly muttered an “Oh Pashaw” and slept on the floor. Bob came at six, looked around and curled up in a corner. We got up at eight and had two cups of coffee. We moved all of our stuff to different barracks and straightened up till noon. After lunch I got a bit drowsy so I slepted for two hours. Dreamed of cowboys and bandits??? Remind me to tell you. Now I’m writing you. Nicest thing that’s happened since I left.
No new rumors around yet. I’m not going around looking for any yet. Peace and quiet’s the next best thing.
Gee I hope your mom isn’t mad at me. She should be because I didn’t do or say a lot of the things I thought of. She’s been so swell to me and I like her so much that I want her to like me too. Aw gee.
I hope you felt better these last couple of days.
It’s a beautiful day. Lots of warm sunshine and a slight breeze. Definitely not the kind of day to spend in the Army or in the Bank. We should be out exploring. There’s a fellow at the piano one fingering “sentimental Journey.” Sounds so sad.
Bob’s mad at you for thinking he’d get into trouble by being late. He always does, but it makes him mad to have anyone say so. He’s writing to (of all things) Cathy. He’s not the Heathy Cliff type (like I am ). I’m glad we saw that again. Tis my favorites.
Could spend hours sayin lots of things, but when you add it all up — I miss you.
My little head is all good up so I’m going to sign off before I get to spelling words correctly.
Bye now Darling. All my love always
Ray
